Tarot - The High Priestess
The High Priestess is regal, serene, spiritual,
secretive, seeking balance, emotional, fluid, totally feminine, often a peace
maker. She is allied with the Moon and it's mysterious ability to move the
great oceans of the world just by her existence. In this she is occasionally
eclipsed by the upstaging of others but she always comes back as bright and
full as before. No flash in the pan will obscure her presence for too long.
The High Priestess associated with the runic
symbol Perth. In this she is the leader who initiates the lay persons into the
mysteries of life. The leader of a coven or the head of a Pagan Circle could
be indicated by the High Priestess. She teaches young girls to become women.
This is the most feminine card in the deck. Where ever there is a need for a
womanly influence it is very beneficial to have this card show.
In the capacity of a teacher and spiritualist this
person is often psychic and actively involved in the use and teaching of the
arts associated with psychic abilities. Perhaps a reader, an astronomer, or
a counselor would find her appropriate.
For many this is the Mother, Maiden, Crone image.
As she represents the totality of woman she is symbolic of the condition of
woman at all stages of her life. As mediator she is the judge of family
matters. "Mom said!" is one of the quotes that is heard when this card is in
influence.
Often this card is chosen as a significator by a
woman who is focused on her spirituality, her positive sense of her womanhood,
who acts a mediator either in her profession or at home and in the community.
While this is a strong powerful card it isn't generally aggressive. Protective
yet peaceful. Confident and generous this is a woman who is comfortable with
herself and the world as it is yet she will defend the helpless and stand up
for the week and needy.
It might be said that she is the ideal mature
woman.
