Tarot - The Empress

Some of the words that come to mind when considering the Empress are Mother, Beauty, Abundance, Pregnancy and Home.  This is the earth mother of the Major Arcana. She is nurturing, loving, welcoming, she supports the efforts of those around her and especially her family. In the trilogy of Maiden, Mother, Crone she is wholly the Mother.  She brings abundance to home and success to money for creation and development of the home.  Any question about building a home, adding on or embellishing the home environment is enhanced when this card appears.

Whether the pregnancy is a human embryo, a bird or animal, more esoterically the publishing of a book, or any project that takes a long time to complete the Empress suggests a successful outcome. Trying out new kinds of vegetables and flowers will be more likely to succeed under the influence of this card.  Fruition, fulfillment, growth and natural beauty of gardens and forests are all here.

In the reversed position this can mean a miscarriage or problems with a pregnancy. It can also mean a greedy woman trying to get more than her share of an inheritance or settlement.  If there is a case where the querant is afflicted by the mother this card will tend to show up. It can suggest a manipulative mother figure.

Regarding the appearance of this woman; she is poised, contained, regal, elegant and sophisticated.  She carries herself with grace and care.  Often she dresses in the most fashionable and expensive of quality goods.  This is no dime store Madonna though, her pearls are always real. Her diamonds are never cubic zirconias.  Her clothes may not be the flashiest but they will be the most top drawer in material and construction. This is frequently true of her home too.  Her gardens are always well tended. Her interiors well designed and harmonious.  It may all be a bit formal but once you get past the real crystal chandelier and khiristan carpets you'll find it a wonderfully comfortable place.

The Empress is aptly named as she is going to impress you one way or another. This royal elegant lady will probably welcome you with the dignity of a state official and the warmth of a mother hen.
