Max at the Movies – Pirates of the Caribbean

Well Max went to the movies a few weeks ago and saw Pirates of the Caribbean. It was good to see Disney finally put together an entertaining movie. Johnny Depp plays a pirate and steals the show from all the other actors.

The story really develops when pirates steal and keep one piece of a treasure that was cursed. All the fights that they get into are of no threat as they can't be hurt and cannot die. You see the curse working when they come outside in the moonlit sky. They turn into skeletons and look more like corpses. The visual effects are quite good when half of a body is in shadow and the other is exposed to the moonlight.

Well things get started when they arrive back at the island where the last piece of the treasure has to be returned, and perform a ritual to remove the curse.  Things go bad for the pirates of the Black Pearl as they try return the last piece of gold. The woman they kidnapped, thinking she is the descendant of the pirate who stole the piece, is found out quickly when they discover the curse is not lifted. The real descendant who befriends Captain Jack doesn't believe that his father was a pirate. Only when he finally believes he is the descendant that Captain Jack is looking for do things turn for the better.  As it is, Captain Jack has stolen a piece of the treasure and now if the curse is not lifted he too will have to live with it.

Anyway you can guess that the curse gets lifted and everyone can go on and live a normal life.  At least it is normal for a pirate. This movie, in spite of a running time of 2 1/2 hours, is very entertaining and goes by faster than you'd expect.

This is definitely worth your time.
