THE HOURS

Max really enjoyed this movie a lot. The acting was superb and I liked how the editing made you feel like the characters were doing the same thing at the same time only it was different periods of time. I didn't read the book but hope that the movie is close to it. The music score really added to the movie and helped with the pacing as the story unfolded. I don't think you could have picked better actresses and actors to fill the parts. Meryl Streep as usual gave her best for the present time, 2001. Julianne Moore was perfect as the mother struggling in the 1950's with a deep emotional problem. Nicole Kidman is hardly recognizable as Virginia Woolf struggling with a career as a writer, a dominating husband, and her inner demons. Nicole gave the best performance of her career and I hope that she gets the Oscar.  It is very much deserved and overlooked. Ed Harris, who was only seen briefly in scenes with Meryl Streep, gave the performance of his career as the poet dying with AIDS. There are several cameos from very obvious stars who you will easily identify. This movie is, and should, win as the Best Picture of the year 2002. It is probably one of only a few that I wanted to see again, which I did. The ending of the movie was quite a surprise and called for another screening as I felt I had missed some clue, and I had. You might have to see it again if you too missed something. It's the best two hours that you could spend if you really like good drama.

This one is a winner from start to finish. Crossing my fingers and hope it does well at the Oscar's
