MAX AT THE MOVIES – Femme Fatale
After many requests from Kheris to write a movie review, I am going to give my best. Understand that I will not be reviewing all movies but only those that I feel are worth spending your money to see. There are a lot of movies made today that aren’t worth even sitting through the trailers at the movies. I sure many have been deeply disappointed when leaving the theatre and wishing you'd seen another picture as this one stunk so bad. I know I have felt this way especially if I didn't take the time to read reviews from the pros who sit through even the worst Hollywood hopes we will go to see each week. This week I went to see Femme Fatale and hoped for the best, as I hadn't seen any trailer for it in the weeks past. Even the reviews were not all positive but I went any way.
This movie was directed by Brian De Palma who did Carrie and Dressed to kill, which were great thrillers, and this one lives up them as well. The only difference is that this is in French with subtitles for the French speaking part, which doesn't distract from watching the picture and the all the action. Rebecca Romijn-stamos is the villain who will stop at nothing to get job done which is to steal diamonds off a model at a fashion show. For those who are homophobic this scene is quite steamy in the bathroom so bear with the plot as it thickens throughout the picture. Now she has to escape with the diamonds and not get caught by her accomplices of which she gives them the slip and escapes which has been her plan all along. How she is able to continue avoiding being caught by the police and her companions in crime is foiled by a photographer played by Antonio Banderas who takes a picture of her and blows her cover. The script was excellent as it follows a path which Hitchcock would have used as there seems no way the Femme fatale can be caught as tries to recover the diamonds from her accomplice, a love interest who happens to be the model she seduces in the opening scene in the bathroom. But things go bad as they try to meet and escape the male thieves who are hot on their trail.
This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you wondering if anyone will be able to stop this villain. The ending is one that has been done many times but it still works here and I won't spoil the surprise as many others who saw The Sixth Sense kept that secret so no one would spoil the ending.
Anyway this is a must see movie. Fasten your seat belts as it will be bumpy ride for all.
